Minutes of EMERGENCY Special Commissioners Meeting - February 27, 2014
Prior to the opening of the EMERGENCY Special Meeting, Mr. Groon led those present in the Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag.
The EMERGENCY Special Meeting of the Board of Commissioners, Borough of Wildwood Crest, Cape May County, New Jersey, was held in the Municipal Court Room at 3:00 p.m. On roll call the following answered to their names:
Gould – Cabrera – Groon Yes
Mr. Groon read the following statement: In compliance with the Open Public Meeting Act, Chapter 231, P.L. 1975, the notice requirements have been satisfied as to the time, place and date of holding said EMERGENCY SPECIAL meeting by posting notice on the bulletin board in the Borough Hall and by mailing and FAX transmitting same to the Gazette-Leader, the Herald and The Press on February 27, 2014 at 1:30 p.m.
Mr. Groon next announced the one-way in and the one-way out method of ingress and egress in case of emergency.
The Clerk announced one matter for discussion: Payment of outstanding bills unknown to the Borough until 9:00 a.m. on February 27, 2014, which outstanding bills have resulted in discontinuation of telephone service to various Borough departments, including the Wildwood Crest Police Department, and therefore affecting the public health, safety and welfare. Captain David Mayer advised that the lack of telephone service to his department is impacting public safety.
The clerk also noted no other business, discussion, or public comments will be permitted at this time, except specifically with respect to the item listed above, due to the limitations imposed on this meeting by the notice authorizing same pursuant to the full provisions of the open public meetings act.
THE CLERK READ THE FOLLOWING RESOLUTION BY TITLE:
That outstanding bills owed to Verizon in the total amount of $23,092.77 be paid.
Gould motioned, seconded by Mr. Cabrera, that all previously mentioned
bills as properly authorized, as submitted, be paid.
A discussion ensued regarding the impact of the 2014 budget.
The CFO informed the commissioners that it took off about $10,000
on 2014 and as much as possible for 2013.
The CFO also confirmed that the bill extending back to 2012.
All of the Communications money was used from 2013 excess.
The CFO also indicated that if the commissioners had other
options they wanted to discuss that she would pursue them.
The service has been temporarily reinstated.
There being no further matters for discussion, Mrs. Gould motioned, seconded by Mr. Cabrera, that the meeting be adjourned.
