The meeting was then opened to the public for comments.

Alan Gould, 8801 Seaview Avenue, congratulated each of the new Commissioners on “an excellent race,” adding that it was a positive campaign, that on the whole it was an excellent campaign – that the only drawback was the “disingenuous” letter sent out by the former Mayor. Mr. Gould went on to state that, although Mrs. Gould received the highest number of votes, “the system” does not automatically provide that the high vote getter become Mayor; that Mrs. Gould was the “most qualified” of those elected commissioner to be Mayor. It was Mr. Gould’s opinion that, in the future, a determination be made that high vote getter be made Mayor in order that “difficulties” may be avoided. Mr. Gould congratulated Mr. Cabrera for his decision to decline the office of Mayor. Mr. Gould wished Mr. Groon much success as Mayor, adding “I know you will all work well together.” He went on to state, “the position of Mayor is to sell this community and to represent this community throughout the state.” He asked that partisanship be put aside and that everybody work together. Mr. Gould concluded his comments by once again congratulating the new Board of Commissioners.

Nancy Pietropaoli, 6002 Seaview Avenue, a member of the “local Board of Election,” congratulated all three Commissioners for “a well run campaign.” Mrs. Pietropaoli went on to state that she was “extremely disappointed” that the Mayor was not going to be the leading candidate. It was Mrs. Pietropaoli’s opinion that “the voters of Wildwood Crest spoke when they voted in this election and their wishes were not met.” She extended her wishes that the three Commissioners work well together and make the changes the community is looking for.

Seeing you further interest on the part of the public to provide additional comments, the Borough Clerk then asked the new Commissioners if they wished to make any statements.

Mrs. Gould thanked her “campaign partner,” Bill Hoeger, for the “tremendous job” done during the campaign. She then “saluted” Bob Patterson for being “a true gentleman.” She then stated to Mr. Cabrera and Mr. Groon her belief that they will all have a “very good relationship.” She reiterated her belief that “changes need to be made on the Planning Board,” but that it be up to Mr. Cabrera and Mr. Groon to also vote for it. She concluded by thanking everyone for their support.

Mr. Cabrera stated that the past week had been the most stressful of his life and that he was glad it was over. He thanked his family for their support. He thanked former Mayor John Pantalone and Commissioner Matt Tomlin for the opportunity to serve with them and for “all they have done in their years of service to our borough.” He went on to thank his supporters, and especially the “great staff” at the Department of Public Works. He asked Mrs. Gould and Mr. Groon “to join me in the idea of leaving any personal agendas and any personal interests out of the decision making process and keep the Borough first and foremost in any decisions we make.”

Mr. Groon thanked his wife and family for their “unwavering support.”  He thanked his running mates, Matt Tomlin and Don Cabrera, for their support. He stated to Mrs. Gould, “I commend the campaign and I congratulate you on joining the Commission.” He thanked the voters “for taking part in this process,” adding that he is looking forward to the next four years. He stated, with regard to the Mayor’s position, his opinion, that he is qualified and that he can handle the position. He added that he anticipates, with the help of Mr. Cabrera and Mrs. Gould, “a lot of good things for the next four years.” He went on to state that he is looking forward to the help of the staff at Borough Hall in the transition. He promised to do the best job he can and to work with Mr. Cabrera and Mrs. Gould to achieve good results.

The Reverend Jeff Salasin then provided the benediction.

Mrs. Gould then motioned, seconded by Mr. Groon, that the meeting be adjourned.

Vote:          Cabrera-Gould-Groon-Yes
